Women Seeking Divorces Drops by Half in the UK Since 1993, Lowest Ever

by admin on February 14, 2019

A historically low number of women are seeking a divorce in the UK, according to the Office for National Statistics.

In 1993, 118,401 women requested a divorce compared to just 62,712 women in 2017.

On top of that, women petitioning courts for a divorce in 2017 was at an all-time low, at least since Great Britain altered its laws in 1969 to make getting a divorce easier.

The number of men applying for formal divorces has also dropped substantially.

According to Thailand divorce lawyers, the Southeast Asian nation has seen a similar fall in the divorce rates in the past few decades.

Relationship experts say that the fall could be caused by the fact men are picking up more of the traditional marital responsibilities and hence, becoming more invested.

The findings come ahead of a highly anticipated move by the UK to finally codify no-fault divorces into law, which would make it possible to divorce without having to prove adultery or other “unreasonable behavior.”
