The ruler of Dubai was recently found to have ordered the kidnapping–and possible torture–of his two daughters, according to a UK family court ruling.

Billionaire royal Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also is the vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, ordered the abduction of one daughter from the streets of Cambridge in 2000 and another from a yacht in 2018 in the Indian Ocean.

The court believe that the two daughters remain kidnapped in their father’s palace in Dubai.

Hague Convention petitions in Thailand can be launched against spouses who abduct their children and take them across international borders.

The court’s ruling stated that the Sheikh violated “the criminal law of England and Wales, international law, international maritime law, and internationally accepted human rights norms.”

The ruling also made clear that Sheikh Maktoum organized a campaign of terror and intimidation against his sixth wife, the mother of the two daughters who had fled their father’s wrath in Dubai before being abducted.

The fallout of the family court ruling could be extreme, considering Dubai is perhaps the number one ally of the UK in the Middle East.
