The Central Juvenile and Family Court in Bangkok has given sole custody to Mitsutoki Shigeta due to the fact that he is financially stable enough and has prepared plans to raise the 13 children.
The case that sparked initial investigation in 2014 has banned “commercial surrogacy for foreign clients” in Thailand. Upon searching Mr. Shigeta’s apartment in 2014, police found nannies looking after the babies in unfurnished rooms in the Niche ID condo in Lat Phrao.
Shigeta was awarded custody to the children as he had petitioned for sole custody before the implementation of the new laws. The surrogate mothers have relinquished their custody rights.
