The Chinese city of Xi’an is seeing a record rise in divorce requests and the culprit could very well be the deadly coronavirus, according to health officials.

The officials in Xi’an state that the drastic increase in divorce petitions could be because of two things, in particular, relating to Covid-19.

First, local government offices could be seeing much higher divorce requests due to the fact that they have been closed for more than a month due to fears surrounding the coronavirus outbreak.

This most likely led to a build-up of couples seeking a split but couldn’t file a divorce application due to the closures of government offices.

Divorce attorneys in Bangkok can assist with both administrative divorces or divorce cases carried out in court.

Second, officials said that married couples quarantining themselves in close quarters without going outside for extended periods of time probably also amplified existing marital problems and tensions.

“As a result of the epidemic, many couples have been bound with each other at home for over a month, which evoked the underlying conflicts,” one official said.

So far, over 90,000 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 worldwide.
