India Officially Removes Leprosy as a Grounds for Divorce

The Indian central government officially removed leprosy as a grounds for divorce.

The law protecting those with leprosy from being divorced by their spouse is called the Personal Laws (Amendment) Act 2019.

According to Thailand divorce lawyers, many Asian countries still have outdated marriage and family laws on the books, usually deriving from religious practices.

In India, leprosy patients have long been on the wrong end of discrimination when it comes to nearly every aspect of society and were often segregated.

After medical advances made it possible to cure leprosy though, attitudes of Indian people began to change for the better.

Now, the law protecting those with leprosy from divorce based solely on their condition has finally caught up to the times too.
